This talk is about the move from Ruby to Clojure in a team of five developers running three Ruby apps in production. We had slow tests, flow, state and view logic braided together, and a newly hired designer blocked by developers. Most of the talk is about the people:

  • Understand interests before proposing solutions.
  • Provide safety for those who fear change: prototypes, trial periods, fallback solutions.
  • Embrace the skeptics, and don’t fear feedback.
  • Empower people and ask for help, so they become more independent.
  • Expect struggles: impostor syndrome and pressure.
